How big are The Beatles, more than forty years after their breakup? Well, "#1", a collection of their hits that reached #1 in various countries around the world, debuted at #1 on iTunes this week. That, despite the facts that the collection has been available as a CD for over a decade [in fact, it was the best-selling CD of the first ten years of this century], and that the individual songs that make up "#1" have been available on iTunes for over two years, since most of The Beatles' catalogue was added to the audio-video download service!

In all, "#1" premiered atop iTunes's download figures in nine different countries [although, oddly enough, not in the United Kingdom]! Then again, the music of The Beatles has done very well on iTunes since it was added two years ago. Worldwide, they've sold more than 9 million songs and one-and-a-half-million albums!

Of course, chart-topping is nothing new for John, Paul, George, and Ringo. They've seen 20 songs and nineteen albums hit #1 on just the Billboard charts in the US. That includes "1967-1970" [known as the 'blue' album], all three of the "Anthology" discs, and, of course, "#1".

Since we're remembering The Beatles, seems only fair to give you some music from "#1". "Help", of course, was the title song from their 1965 movie. John Lennon said that the song really was a cry for help [at least by him], and that he was in the middle of his "fat Elvis period" when making the movie, and the song:
