"Buckle Up, New York" is a two week campaign to enforce the state's seat belt law resumes today.

State Police as well as other local law enforcement agencies will be out in force looking for drivers and passengers who are not wearing their seat belts.

According to the New York State Police 'Buckle Up New York' is a zero tolerance enforcement campaign designed to increase safety restraint use in New York State.

New York State enacted the first mandatory safety belt use law in the nation in 1984, but estimates are that only about 84 percent of New York State motorists frequently wear safety restraints. The campaign strives tp save an estimated 148 lives and more than $400 million dollars in economic costs to the public this year, as well as decrease the deaths, injuries, and property damage resulting from crashes on our highways.
