Chocolate Nut Dream Bars

Base

2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter (room temp.)
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup flour

Combine sugar and butter. Mix in vanilla, salt, then the flour. Press over bottom of 19x9-inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes, and cover with topping.

Topping

1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 tsp. salt

Beat all ingredients until light, then add 3 cups of finely chopped walnuts. Spread this over baked bottom, and bake again for 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned.

Frosting

1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan over moderate heat, and cook until smooth, stirring constantly. Cool until thick enough to spread over cooled cookies, then sprinkle chopped walnuts on top. When completely set, cut into squares.
