Davy Jones of the Monkees has died of a heart attack at the age of 66, according to ABC News. The one time teen heart throb enjoyed huge success in the 60's, when television producers wanted to latch on to Beatlemania with the fictional creation. While the band didn't play any instruments for the recordings, they did eventually learn the songs and play them on tour with Jones being the centerpiece who drove the girls crazy.

Jones joined the Monkees in 1965, along with Peter Tork, Michael Nesmith and Mickey Dolenz and sold millions of albums thanks to the hit TV series. The Band was best known for Jones' "Daydream Believer" and "Last Train to Clarksville" but were criticized as being a Beatles rip-off band. Still, it was hard not love the Monkees for thier humorous antics and repeats were still widespread in the 70's. Monkee Mania had a brief revival in the mid-80's thanks to MTV and there was even a "New Monkees" TV show that failed miserably. The band had several reunion shows and were touring as recently as last summer before cancelling the tour due to "internal conflicts."
