"I think what America should be doing is restricting the availability of ammunition or revisiting their gun laws—that's what they should be doing.''

The above quote is from Kim Ledger, whose son Heath portrayed The Joker in the movie The Dark Knight (and may have influenced Colorado Massacre suspect James Holmes). While Ledger is Australian, she may have a point.

Understand that I respect the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights. I have friends who, as members of local law enforcement agencies, carry weapons. I have family who belong to the NRA (one is a Life Member). None of them has ever insisted on the rights of anyone to purchase the mind-boggling amount of ammunition that Holmes ordered online legally in the weeks before last Friday’s theatre shooting.

How much ammunition and supplies did Holmes acquire? Read this story from the New York Times. Please. Then remember that currently, just about anyone else could do the same thing.

I’m not saying it’s time to end private ownership of guns. But I agree with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg that it’s time to re-open the national discussion on the topic:

What do you think?
