27 years ago, in 1986, we celebrated the first observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

As I was online looking for some interesting facts about Dr. King and the holiday, two main things ring true.  There are lot of activities going on in cities around the country in his memory, which is great.  Everything else were shopping deals at stores.  Furniture, cars, clothes, you name it.  Christmas makes sense to me, because people buy gifts.  Valentine's Day, sure, we buy people things.  MLK Day?  Just seems wrong to me.
