Take your seat, strap in, and get ready to travel at lightspeed! Join us as we fly through a galaxy far, far away and take a more in-depth look at one of the most popular science fiction movies of our time, Star Wars: A New Hope. To prepare ourselves, we will first take a look at some of George Lucas' biggest influences in creating his epic masterpiece, the films of Akira Kurosawa and Flash Gordon serials, among others. Students will then examine the main characters of Star Wars: A New Hope in detail, relationships between the characters, the search for a hero, and more! Finally, the jump to lightspeed! We will watch Star Wars: A New Hope and analyze it as we go. After enjoying the film, students will act out their favorite scenes from the movie, play games based on the franchise, and be able to create their own characters!
