First Lady Michelle Obama is breaking new ground with her first book.  It's called "American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America."

The first lady's newly released book about the White House garden includes recipes from the White House kitchen and stories of other gardens across America that have inspired her.

The garden has been a focus of Michelle Obama's since her husband first took office.  The first seeds were planted in the Spring of 2009 and the garden ultimately led to the first lady's "Let's Move!" campaign which targets childhood obesity.

The book reveals that first lady is a lot like other novice gardeners.  Mrs. Obama discusses her struggles and worries over whether the much publicized garden would actually take root.

So what exactly does Mrs. Obama grow on the south lawn of the White House?  Fresh lettuce, corn, tomatoes, collards and kale, sweet potatoes and rhubarb.  All great for making  a variety of fresh dishes.  Here are some of the recipes the first lady shares in the book:  Green beans with almonds, sweet potato quick bread, rhubard strawberry crumble pie, and white bean salad.
