It seems like the Summer months have just ended, the leaves are still green and it is flu shot time...already? The answer is of course, yes!

The CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccination as the first and most important step in protecting against the flu. The U.S. seasonal influenza vaccine will protect against an H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus, and the H1N1 virus. Seasonal vaccine has begun shipping from manufacturers and CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine for the upcoming season as vaccine is available.

The CDC recommends those individuals at high risk for complications from influenza, particularly individuals ages 65 and older, and those with high-risk conditions in the 50 to 64 age group, to get their flu shots first.

Persons at high risk for complications from influenza include:

* Residents of nursing homes and other chronic-care facilities;
* Health-care workers and household members who care for persons with high risk diseases;
* Adults with chronic heart and lung disease;
* Pregnant women who will be in their fourth month or later during the flu season.
* Adults with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, kidney diseases or those receiving immunosuppressive therapy for other conditions.
