Goo Goo Dolls Fire Drummer Mike Malinin

It was a surprise to most Goo fans, as well as to the man himself...but Goo Goo Doll Mike Malinin has been "dismissed" from his duties as drummer of the band.

He had been sitting out of the current tour to deal with family matters...most assuming for his wife's pregnancy. Lifehouse's drummer Rick Woolstenhulme, Jr. had been taking his place behind the kit.

Mike's first move following the news was to invite Richie Sambora to start a new band. Some reports say the Bon Jovi guitarist is entertaining the idea.

Malinin insists there are no hard feelings, issuing a brief statement:

Got some news today. Just wanted to say thanks for the fans who’ve supported me for 19 years. It was not my decision to leave the band – but no grudges held. I wish them all the best. Best of luck and happy travels to them.

We wish all those involved all the best in their new endeavors.
