From the Joy-FM "We can't really say we're surprised" desk: Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows, Part 2, already holder of the Best Opening Day record, has shattered the Best Opening Weekend record, grossing an estimated $168.6 millon (Previous record-holder The Dark Knight brought in $158.4 millon during its opening weekend in 2008). Harry and the Hogwarts gang was just as dominant outside the US, raking in a mind-boggling $307 million (a new record for international grosses). Doing the math [never my strong suit], the last of the Harry Potter movies made $475.6 million worldwide this weekend, another [you'll never guess] new record.

Now I've got to be honest; when it comes to the Potter phenomenom, I'm solidly in the "muggles" camp. I read the first book in the series, Harry Potter and the Sorcer's Stone, and, while I thought it was well-written, I had no interest in going any further. I'm an intrigued observer of Potter-mania, but I just really don't get it [I'm sure the serious Potter believers will throw spells at me, but I'm really not putting it down. I just felt it wasn't for me.].
