It's definitely gone up, even WITH inflation figured in.  

If you were on the fence about having kids, this may slant you in a particular direction. Still, it is interesting to see the things that more money goes toward now.

For example, in 1960, parents spent 24 percent of their money on food. In 2012, it's only 16 percent. But the cost of child care has skyrocketed.

From birth to 18, it will cost almost a quarter of a million dollars to raise a child. Not included is the cost for college -- then you might as well double the price.
