Here goes the start to another season of iPhone chaos. The iPhone 5 will begin shipping next Friday, September 21, and with it will be millions of people crazy about the new device. The iPhone 5 has many new features that will be sure to please users, including:

  • A 4-inch display (the iPhone 4 had a 3.5-inch display).
  • Support for 4G LTE networks.
  • 1 new speaker (bringing the the total to 3).
  • Improved battery life.

There is one feature, however, that is likely to irritate many: a new connector on the bottom of the phone.  The "lightning port," as Apple calls it, will be smaller and differently shaped than current connectors, making any old chargers or docks hard to use.  There is an adapter that can connect new phones to many -- but not all -- older accessories.

This adapter will not be included in the purchase of the phone, but Apple does have them available to purchase for $30. That's what everyone wants -- to buy extra accessories on top of buying the new phone, which will be $199 with a new 2-year contract! But I'm sure people will buy it, since fans of the iPhone have been waiting for the release of the iPhone 5 since the release of the 4S in October 2011.

Accessories for Apple have made over $2 billion in the United States alone over the past year. Any companies that make products now have to redesign all of their accessories to fit the new phone and its port.  This will also make it harder for customers with older iPhones to find accessories, as new ones will be more dominant in the market.

No matter what, though, this new phone will be pretty cool. It just raises the question: Are you willing to pay?
