I can't tell you how many times I have been at an appearance when someone comes up to me and says ..."How did you get into radio?"

It's been so long ago I can hardly remember. I started in radio at WJJL in Niagara Falls, N.Y. at the ripe old age of 16.

I always have had an interest in radio, and used to visit area radio stations before I could drive (yep, dear old Dad had to take me). Getting me there was not the problem, getting me to leave? Well that was a different story.

I would sit-in and watch area radio personalities, including Sal Paonessa (WHLD-AM), Jeff Gill (WJJL-AM), Tim Kelley (WKBW-AM), and Scott Carpenter (CHUM-AM Toronto). FM was an "aside" in those days...nobody listened to FM.

In the 41 years since radio has become my life. I have worked at such stations as WJJL, WYSL, WGRQ, WBNY, and WJYE. I have had various "identities" at those stations,
other than Joe Chille (which by the way is my REAL name). I was Dave Kennedy, Shadow Stevens, and Allan West.

Since 1978 I have been at WJYE (first known as WBNY-FM) and most commonly referred to as 96.1 JOYfm.

I have worked with some great co-hosts including Rob Stoddard, Maryalice Demler, Nancy Barrow, Karen Vanee, C.J. Lee and of course Cheryl Hagen.

I sincerely hope that you have enjoyed the last 41 years as much as I have, and you enjoy some of the "vintage photographs" in the associated gallery.

Thanks for listening, and please share your comments.
