‘Joe the Monkey Learns to Share’ — Help Teach Your Kids Financial Responsibility

It's no secret this is a fragile economy...and who knows when the waters will calm.  As grown-ups, we do whatever we can to budget, save, and plan for the future.  But what about our kids?

81 percent of parents say they feel it's their duty to teach their kids about money and savings. But only 26 percent feel well-prepared to do so.

I graduated from SUNY Fredonia with SIX credit cards, all maxed.  It's not that I didn't know about saving and budgeting.  I was very fortunate that my parents taught me the value of a dollar.  However, I don't know that I had the foresight -- even at 21 -- to realize how that kind of financial irresponsibility would impact my early adulthood.  It took 10 years of hard work just to clear up my credit cards.
