Kris Kringle Cookies

1 cup butter
3 eggs
1 tsp. anise
1 1/2 tsp. cream of tarter
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 2 tbsp. milk
2 cups sugar
1 tsp. salt
4 1/2 cups flour

Cream butter and sugar together until sugar is nearly melted. Add anise oil, milk, baking soda and eggs, then salt and cream of tarter sifted with 2 cups of flour.

Add enough flour to make a dough that may be rolled, then chill dough overnight.

Roll on lightly floured board to desired thickness. Cut with cookie cutters, and bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 400 degrees for 8-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the dough.

When cooked, put on frosting (3 cups powdered sugar, 4 tbsp. milk ,1 tsp. anise extract). Use pastry brush to spread when hot, and put sprinkles on top.
