Meeting the budget: It’s a tough thing for local school districts in the past few years.

Niagara Wheatfield has to make $1 million worth of cuts in order to make the upcoming budget. The school district is considering the option to modify or cut Kindergarten completely.

"We need to look at what's going to affect the kids the least in this district,” said school board member Chris Peters.

The decision would not be violating any state laws since Kindergarten is not a state-mandated program.

"In my opinion we need to give a direction here to the administration to look at potentially cutting out kindergarten," said Peters.

Niagara Wheatfield has had no increase in school taxes, and with changes in the budget and not enough money for the state, the school district has found themselves in this situation. They have until Wednesday to make a decision.
