Madonna had by far the highest-earning concert tour in 2012, raking in more than $228 million from 72 live concerts, according to figures reported by Billboard. The Material Girl's earnings were far ahead of second-place finisher Bruce Springsteen, while Coldplay, Lady Gaga, and the Jay-Z-Kanye West joint tour all placed in the Top 10.

Even though her album 'MDNA' only produced one hit, all of Madge's concerts on the MDNA Tour sold out, helping her earn more than $3 million per show. She performed in front of 1.63 million fans on the tour to outpace veteran rock acts Springsteen and Roger Waters, who rounded out the top three.

The Michael Jackson Cirque du Soleil tour ranked fourth with $147 million, just ahead of Coldplay, who also earned $147 million from 67 shows on their extensive Mylo Xyloto Tour. The Brit rockers performed for 1.8 million fans, second only to Springsteen's 2.1 million. Despite not releasing any new music in 2012, Gaga made more than $124 million from 65 shows to rank in sixth place. Kanye and Jay-Z came in ninth with $46 million.

Justin Bieber (No. 20) and Taylor Swift (No. 24) both placed further down the list, but that's only because they didn't perform as many concerts as the others. Bieber earned $30 million from 29 live performances, while Swift earned $26 million from 21 shows. Both performers figure to rank much higher in 2013, when they have lengthy tours planned.
