Mean People Suck But They Also Make More Money

It's true, being nice doesn't pay. A new study appropriately titled "Do Nice Guys - and Gals - Really Finish Last" has found that being agreeable at work does not amount to a bigger paycheck.

The Wall Street Journal reports on results of the study which found guys who disagree more often at work will likely earn as much as 9-percent more than their nicer counterparts.  The difference in salary can amount to nearly ten-thousand-dollars a year.  Mean women don't make out quite as well as the argumentative guys, but they still earn about five-percent more than women who are more agreeable, amounting to an average of about 18-hundred-dollars more in their paychecks each year. 

The results of the study by will be presented next week at the annual meeting of the Academy of Management in San Antonio, Texas. The research will also be printed in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
