On the heels of a turbulent year the Niagara County SPCA officially elected a new board of directors, replacing the entire existing board.

"Because of some of the controversy, just lack of momentum from the past board, the community has really put it out there that they just want a clean slate for the Niagara County SPCA," Interim Executive Director Amy Lewis said.

2012 started with allegations of mismanagement and animal mistreatment, followed by an investigation that reported the shelter was "dysfunctional, chaotic and sometimes inhumane." Executive Director John Faso was then fired and many other board members resigned.

The names of the 15 new board members have not been released.
