Out Of Pain Comes Strength — Delilah’s Reflections

Dealing with a difficult situation when it’s least expected makes it hard to be prepared to handle.

However, Delilah explains you’re not alone when it comes to this kind of situation.

When something painful or difficult occurs in our life, it often comes out of nowhere. We don’t expect it or we’re not prepared for how to deal with it. The loss of my brother when I was younger and the loss of my son Sammy a couple years ago were both very much like that – unexpected and hard to accept. It’s almost impossible to see how you’ll ever be happy again when you’re immersed in a period of loss, immense stress, or uncertainty. But I’m living proof you can have failed marriages, get fired a dozen times, live off ramen noodles to scrape by with your newborn son, tragically lose several people you deeply love…and manage to feel abundantly blessed and happy today. I’m here to tell you whatever pain you’re enduring or have yet to endure, it will not last….

I think we’ve all scraped our knees, banged up our elbows, broken a bone or two or three. We’ve all endured physical trauma at some point, probably during our adventures in childhood for many of us. The wound hurts, and some of us have the evidence in scars to prove how badly it hurt! Have you ever noticed when a wound heals, the skin that forms the scar seems tougher than the skin before it? That’s kind of the same thing that happens when we have emotional hurts. We have to endure the initial pain, give it time to heal, and then we’ll eventually be stronger for it.

It may take a little longer to get over emotional pain, but when you choose not to be defeated and nurse your emotional wounds with help from caring people around you, you will overcome your obstacle, your pain, your struggle and be armed with the knowledge and empathy to help and heal others around you when it’s their turn to go through the muck of life.

Whatever you are going through today, I want you to know you are not alone. Others have gone before you and will go after you in a similar, if not same situation. People are willing to help and support you, but you have to be willing to ask for it. Look for emotional support and reach out for help to heal the hurts in your life. And one day, after your wounds have healed, and someone reaches out to you for help, you may find yourself thanking God for your own experiences – good and bad – and giving you the wisdom to help this person find their peace again. Something to think about today…
