Being in a long distance relationship with any sort of family or friend is a difficult task to manage.

A relationship between a mother and daughter, however, is an extreme case of this, especially when it involves a daughter heading overseas.

Dear Delilah,

I'm writing you to in regards to honoring military mothers on Mother's Day. My mom hated that I wanted to join the Army, but I was set on it. She was a mess when I first left for Afghanistan, but as the deployment passed she realized that I was going to be OK. I enlisted almost 3 years ago.

Since then, I've missed being with my mom on Mother's Day either due to deployments or training for a deployment. I'm excited to say that this year I'll finally make it home to be with my family to celebrate this wonderful woman. Her words of wisdom, discipline, love, and compassion have come with me to the heart of Afghanistan, and to the children there.

The two hardest jobs in the military are the military wives and the military moms. Through her prayer and support I made it safely home; even through some really close calls. Thank you Mom and I LOVE YOU!!! Lake

What did YOU do for your mom on Mother's Day this year? Comment below!
