Don't know how far along you are in your Christmas shopping, but you've just missed out on the perfect gift for the serious comic book collector.

The item in question: Action Comics # 1, the first appearance of the first real superhero, Superman. It's estimated that only 100 copies of the 1938 book still exist, and it's been a long time since one in this good shape went to auction. On a scale of 1 to 10, yesterday's record-breaker was rated at 9.0.The new record price for a comic book? A staggering $2.16 Million!

The auction took place in Philadelophia. The name of the comic's new owner was not released. The previous record-holder for most expensive comic book was another copy of Action Comics #1, which sold for $1.5 Million last year.

Like me, you've probably heard of the book, but have never actually seen one. Here's a video of all the pages in Superman's first adventure:

(To really see the comic book, you should probably click on the "Full-screen" button, at the lower right hand side of the video screen. When you're done, just click on the "Esc" button at the upper left corner of your keyboard to reduce it to normal size)
