We're closing out an era here at the Hagen household. My daughter, Jenna, and her girlfriends attended the "8th Grade Dinner Dance" this weekend as they wrap up classes and exams at Lancaster Middle School over the the next couple of weeks. In September, they'll be freshman at Lancaster High School. I can't help but feel the transition is somewhat bittersweet.

A little more than a week ago, a 14-year-old Lancaster Middle School student was killed when he was struck by a vehicle on Lake Avenue driven by a man police say had been drinking.  The fatal crash happened in the midst of the high profile local trial of another man accused in yet another fatal hit-and-run drunk driving crash. Two children gone, two families grieving.  This is crazy.  How do we stop the insanity?

Funeral Services will be held today for 14-year-old Bryce Buchholz.  The Lancaster Middle School student was killed by a hit-and-run driver last Thursday night while riding his bicycle on Lake Avenue.  Police believe the driver had been drinking.  While Bryce's family mourns his loss, his father has left his friends a message.

Thursday night an accident about a half-mile from my house took the life of one of my daughter's classmates. 14-year-old Bryce Buchholz was killed by a man who police allege struck the boy on Lake Avenue in Lancaster after an evening of drinking, and then sped away leaving the friends who were with Bryce and nearby residents to rush to help.

Wow, it's already August 1st and we still have so much to do this summer!  We made it to Cedar Point, spent some time with family and friends, and been to the movies a few times.  Jen's made some fantastic  lacrosse memories and my son has had a fantastic time with "The Boys of Blue" -- "Lancaster Blue."  That's my son's travel baseball team, officially known as the Lancaster Blue 10 and Under Travel Baseball Team.
