Ok this whole event is just down right scary to me. Nick Walenda is walking the tight rope in Niagara Falls. This is bound to be THE main attraction this summer. If you would like to see him attempt this dangerous event, it'll cost.
Forget Florida, Hawaii and other tropical climates. One of the prizes offered on "The Price is Right" today is a week in Niagara Falls!
I grew up with The Three Stooges, until my Mom thought they were too violent (thank goodness she never saw the "Jackass" movies).

A week of Niagara Falls daredevils wraps up with perhaps the most scientific stunter ever to conquer Niagara. As we shall see, though, even the most carefully planned stunt can have unplanned complications.
(This was supposed to be a look at the "Last of the Niagara Daredevils. But, to be honest, I'd forgotten all about today's subject. His story should be told, 50 years after his moment in Niagara history. The "Last of the Niagara Daredevils" can wait one day-MR)
Today's entry in our look at Niagara Falls daredevils took place in 1961. It tells the story of a mysterious man who called himself "Nathan Boya". He's the only black person to go over the Falls. And, unlike most stunters, he doesn't seem to have done it for fame or fortune, but just to say he had. Or maybe it was something else...
More than a few movies have been set in, or featured scenes shot at Niagara Falls. Marilyn Monroe had a breakout performance in 1953's Niagara (while simultaneously being courted by two different suitors while they were all staying on different floors of the same Niagara Falls, ON hotel!). Clark and Lois honeymooned at the Falls in 1980's Superman II. And, in what may have been the first major scene shot there, a legendary magician performed real magic in the pounding waters at the brink of the cataract.
Our week-long look at Niagara Falls daredevils continues today with the amazing-but-true tale of A. E. Taylor, the first person to go over the Falls in a barrel. As we'll see, Taylor hoped for a little financial security, which sadly proved rather elusive (There are those who believe that the cataract is under a curse, a result of the many deaths recorded there. Anyone who's looked into the post-Niagara lives of most daredevils, as I have, may start believing in curses).
With Nik Wallenda's Niagara Falls tightrope walk on hold, pending Canadian approval , it seems like a good time to look back on some of the many stunters who challenged the Falls and won (it also seems like a good time to remind you that US and Canadian law strictly prohibits stunting in and around Niagara Falls, including the rapids running throughout the Niagara Gorge. Then again, very few locals have attempted a feat of daring at the Falls. Could it be because we've seen the cataract from an early age, and developed respect for the powerful waters?).
