Disney and Lucasfilm have released a statement that Carrie Fisher will not be digitally resurrected for any future 'Star Wars' films, including 'Episode IX.'

We’re still reeling the loss of Star Wars legend and all-around treasure Carrie Fisher, though as tends to be the case with departed stars, their upcoming projects will help uphold their legacy. In addition to completing her work on Star Wars Episode VIII, Fisher had also recorded several 2017 episodes of Family Guy, and completed her role in Season 3 of the UK’s Catastrophe.

At 60 years old, actress best known as Princess Leia in Star Wars has died. She was flying from London to Los Angeles this past Friday and was removed from the flight and taken to a nearby hospital, going into cardiac arrest. Fisher was treated for a heart attack and later died in the hospital on Tuesday morning...

Look, pretty much every Star Wars fan with functioning brain cells knows that there won’t be a sequel to Rogue One, but there’s an unspoken (and kind of dumb) rule in any setting which involves people asking questions and receiving answers about movies: If it can be asked, someone will ask it, especially if it’s a question with a really obvious answer — like “will there be a sequel to Rogue One?”

Colin Trevorrow, Jordan Vogt-Roberts and Josh Trank are just a few of the names among those that have transitioned from acclaimed first-time indie filmmakers to first-time blockbuster directors. The list of filmmakers who have made that giant leap includes very few women, and it’s something that Disney and subsidiaries Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios have been working to address. Change comes slowly, and it’s been even slower for Star Wars, which has yet to hire a woman to direct any of their upcoming films. While it’s definitely a priority for Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, we might have to wait a bit longer for it to happen.

One of the reasons we’re so excited for Rogue One is because it’ll introduce us to so much more of the Star Wars galaxy than we’ve seen before. The Force Awakens did this too, but there’s something different about Rogue One. It’s a part of the story we’ve all heard before, but it’ll show us loads of new worlds and characters that we’ve never met.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a beloved ’90s classic. But did you know the movie started life over ten years earlier, when producer Tim Burton wrote a poem in 1982? At the time, Burton was an animator at Walt Disney Studios, and he tried to turn The Nightmare Before Christmas into a short film. Disney considered it, but nothing ever happened with it, and eventually Burton lost his job. Then he went on to direct Pee-wee’s Big Adventure and Batman. Suddenly, Disney was more interested in The Nightmare Before Christmas, and as an entire feature-length film. If nothing else, Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s upcoming Han Solo prequel / spinoff is going to look fantastic, as the duo have hired Bradford Young to serve as cinematographer. Okay, let’s be honest: With Lord and Miller on board and the incredibly charming Alden Ehrenreich in the lead role, it’s almost guaranteed that the next Star Wars anthology film will be pretty entertaining — but now we know it’s also going to look really, really, really good.
