It’s one thing to come up with a creative explanation when you get caught doing something you shouldn't. But one Florida teen says to blame the hospital where he allegedly spent two weeks impersonating a physician’s assistant.

Matthew Scheidt was hired last year as a clerk at a doctor’s office in Kissimee, FL. He had to go to a nearby hospital to get his ID badge. When he got there, he claims the hospital gave him incorrect credentials, identifying him as a PA. Most of us would have pointed out the mistake. Scheidt decided to practice medicine without a license.

Here’s how ABC News saw the story:

Scheidt went on to impersonate a police officer in Miami Beach a few months later, going so far as to warn drivers to put on seat belts, before being caught by undercover officers. He faces up to 40 years in prison at his upcoming trial.
