Are you looking for the next big thing in diamonds? You may want to start looking in outer space. The pay-off: How about a planet-sized diamond?

An American-French project has discovered a planet, 55 Cancri e', that orbits one of the stars of the constellation Cancer. It's twice the size of Earth, and its mass is estimated at eight times that of our home planet. Scientists believe it is at least one-third diamonds, or perhaps just one gigantic diamond!.

Diamond planets have been discovered before, but this is the first one of such size, and that has been studied as much as this one has. If you're interested in checking up on the giant diamond planet, be aware that 55 Cancri e' is 40 light years, or 230 trillion miles, from Earth.

Maybe I'll just settle for that big prize in the Cracker-Jack(R) box...
