Tom Hanks is out promoting his new movie Captain Phillips and appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman on Monday.

He told Letterman, "I went to the doctor and she said, 'You know those high blood sugar numbers you've been dealing with since you were 36? Well, you've graduated. You've got Type 2 diabetes, young man.'"

His doctor also told him he wouldn't have it if he weighed as much as he did in high school, and he told his doctor that wasn't going to happen.

It's OK, Tom, I'll never weigh as much as I did in high school either, and I think it was almost twice what you say you weighed.

Other celebrities living with Type 2 diabetes include Larry King, Paula Deen, Patti LaBelle, Drew Carey, Sherri Shepherd and Randy Jackson.
