A U.S. Navy destroyer conducting security operations in the Persian Gulf, collided with a Japanese-owned oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz Sunday morning.

According to CNN the U.S. Navy said no one was injured in the early morning collision when the USS Porter collided with the Panamanian-flagged bulk oil tanker M/V Otowasan.

The only other details provided about the accident was that it was not related to combat, is under investigation and "the ship is able to operate under its own power," the statement said.
