WEIRD SCIENCE: DNA Emoticons [VIDEO]

We of the modern world owe much to science. Science has improved our health and our understanding of our place in the universe. It's helped us see how the creatures of the past became the animals of today [unless, of course, you don't believe that]. And, sometimes, science does things that we wouldn't understand the point of in a million years, no matter how hard we think about them.

Researchers at Harvard University's Wyss Institute have been studying the makeup of DNA, the cellular "instructions" that cause cells to handle specific functions in virtually all forms of life. This video helps explain how that works:

OK, I think I followed that as well as I could [some days I'm not as bright as other days]. My question is, if the point of DNA research is to try and eliminate diseases by changing its design, why aren't we spending more time on that, and less time on maing little smiley faces out of it?
