So many trees, so little time. I was asked to write a story for our website about the best places locally to buy a Christmas tree. I passed the question along to my friends on Facebook and their answers made me realize where you buy your tree is dependent on so many factors. Cost obviously is a major reason for some, for others it’s convenience. Some folks are looking to turn the hunt for a tree into a family experience. No matter what you’re looking for though, I believe I have the answer!

    Quick and Easy!

Home Depot and Lowe’s were among the retailers mentioned for both fresh cut and artificial trees. My family has purchased both types at Home Depot. Convenient locations and the price have been right. We generally paid in the neighborhood of $30-to-$40 for a fresh cut tree. Home Depot has a variety of artificial trees ranging in price from $99-to-$229. We purchased a pre-lit tree a couple of years ago here and are very pleased. Lowe’s, I’m told, has similar pricing and variety. [Home Depot Locations] [Lowes Locations]

    Decorated to the Nines!

Dave’s Christmas Superstore in Cheektowaga always comes to mind this time of year. You’ll find pretty much any type or size of artificial tree you can dream up at Dave’s. The store is open year round, but it shines at Christmas with artificial trees decorated in classic styles and with the latest trends. Dave’s is always on my Christmas shopping list. A great place to visit whether you’re looking for a tree or any other decorations! [Dave's Christmas Superstore site]

Variety is the Spice of Life!

Local nurseries are always stocked with fresh cut trees as the holidays approach. We’re told Frasier Fir trees with their strong branches and silver-like color are the most popular type of tree locally. Douglas Firs have a softer needle and more of a medium green coloring. Noble Firs have strong branches and a deep green color, while Blue Spruce Trees have sturdy branches and a blue-silver coloring. You can find Scotch Pines, Norway Spruce and so many more. If you have something particular in mind, you may want to call around to local nurseries to check if they have it and on the price as well. [More info on Live Christmas Trees]

Live Trees You Can Plant In The Spring

Some folks like the idea of a live tree, but hate to see it slowly lose its needles and die. If it’s a tree with root ball or a potted tree you want you can shop around in any of the places we’ve listed so far. (Local nurseries, Dave’s, Home Depot or Lowe’s) Pretty much any place selling Christmas trees has an assortment of potted ones. Rather than watch the needles scatter across your floor over the holidays, you can watch your tree grow in your yard for years to come!

    A Family Experience

A visit to a Christmas tree farm maybe the ultimate experience in tree shopping. We’ve had several people suggest Bird Haven Tree Farm in Warsaw. The trip to Bird Haven includes a ride through the country, a saw to cut down the tree you pick out and help hauling it away. They also have snacks, homemade wreaths and pictures with Santa to make a complete day of it. An experience your kids will never forget!
