For many women, a high place on their "guilty pleasure" list is reserved for The Bachelor and its spin-offs, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor Pad. But why?

According to Emma Gray, an editor at Internet news-source The Huffington Post, it comes down to three main factors:

-Everybody loves a good train wreck: Gray, who proclaims herself a happy addict to the show, says "...there's just something inherently appealing about watching a human being get too drunk, burst into fake tears, and generally embody the term 'hot mess'";

-It's a safe outlet for women's frustrations: Under the best of circumstances, Mondays are difficult. Add onto that the very real possibility that one or more things may have added to the frustration package, and finding something to get aggravated at or laugh about becomes a necessity. The Bachelor [indeed, anything Chris Harrison hosts] fills that role admirably;

-"Bachelor" love is so fake [and warped] that it makes women grateful for the (oft-painful) real thing: Gray asks the basic question: "In what world are we supposed to believe that 25 random girls would all fall madly in love with one dopey dude (and in a matter of hours)?" No matter how bad a woman's love life is going, there is always someone on The Bachelor whose has it worse - and on national TV.

The statistics from the "Bachelor/Bachelorette/Bachelor Pad" programs are not good. Out of all the couples created on the various shows, only three have survived, never mind prospered. The rest have crashed and burned, usually reported by every tabloid in America.

Are you a "Bachelor" watcher? More importantly, will you admit it publicly to friends and/or family? If you will, tell us too, either here or on our Facebook page.
