If Breast Cancer is found early, there are more treatment options and even a better chance for survival. Early detection includes a physical examination by your physician, a self breast exam and a mammogram.

Women age 20-39, a clinical breast exam by your physician should be performed. If not, ask for it. It should be done at least every 3 years, unless you are at high risk.

Women age 40 and older, should have a clinical breast exam and a mammogram once a year.

All women should do a self breast exam once a month. This should be done one week after your menstrual cycle has begun. If you are post menopausal, pick the same date every month. And know your body. Know what your breasts feel like and how they look.

If you notice changes or feel something different, notify your physician. If you are not sure how to do a self breast exam, you can find that information on the Susan G. Komen website (www.komen.org), the American Cancer Society website (www.cancer.org) or ask your physician.
