The End of the Beach Boys?

You probably missed the news [I know I did], but the Beach Boys probably played its last show with the surviving original members last month in London.

The show was on September 28th, and wrapped up the band’s 50th Anniversary tour.Afterwards Mike Love, who owns legal rights to the name “Beach Boys”, sent out a press release noting that founding members Brian Wilson and Al Jardine, along with long-time member David Marks would no longer tour with the band.

Love has performed with a variety of musicians over the last few years [including John Stamos, on drums in the photo above] under the “Beach Boys” name. He’ll probably do the same in the future.

It’s all perfectly legal, but kinda weird, for the group to go on without Wilson and Jardine, especially after the success of the tour, and an album of new music [That's Why God Made The Radio ] that got many positive reviews, despite not selling really well.

Apparently the displaced members found out when the press release came out. Wilson told CNN he was shocked by the news:

“I’m disappointed and can’t understand why [Love] doesn’t want to tour with Al, David and me. “We are out here having so much fun. After all, we are the real Beach Boys.

Thanks to The Huffington Post for the heads-up…
