It’s the weekend and you and your honey are probably going on a hot date. Try shaking things up a bit with a hot kiss. You may have to do a little work to have the magical lip locking moment. From the look on her face, this kiss is just not working. 

• Hygiene- Make sure your teeth  are clean and your breath is perfect. Soften your lips with a balm stick, not a sticky gloss. Don’t forget to exfoliate your lips, a soft toothbrush will do the trick.
• Set the mood- Find a comfy and cozy place. Make sure your mind is in a happy place. There’s nothing worse than a angry kiss. You may crack a tooth.
•  The Kiss- Start with a gentle soft peck, gently run your fingers through his hair and down the back of his neck.. You can go wherever you want after this.

“We’re going to let people know that, that general area is now under camera surveillance 24-7 by the police department,” said Chella.

“We may not be able to react quickly, but it is being taped for any evidentiary material we can collect for prosecution,” said Chella.

Chella tells us property crime rates are on the rise. The department has been taking notes on the successful use of surveillance cameras in Buffalo.

“What we’ve tried to learn from Buffalo is the placement and what we can garner from the cameras, and obviously in the last couple weeks you’ve seen the success of the Buffalo surveillance cameras,” said Chella.

Memorial Day weekend traditionally kicks off the summer travel season and this year you won’t have to go far to reach a top 50 getaway!  Niagara Falls has made a list of the Top Destinations for Memorial Day weekend. 

Priceline  is out with its annual list for the holiday weekend.  The name your own price travel booking website has named Niagara Falls one of the top 50 destinations for Memorial Day.  Niagara Falls, Ontario, finished 18th on the list, while Niagara Falls, New York, is 19th. 

A Priceline news release  indicates the top 50 destinations this year showcase travelers budget sensitivities.

“Average summer airfares are the highest we’ve seen in a decade,” said priceline.com’s in-house Travel Ekspert Brian Ek. “So it’s not surprising to see travelers opting for the more affordable destinations where average summer airfares are down versus last year.”

Who else was on the list?  The Las Vegas Strip was number one, followed by Chicago’s Michigan Avenue, Midtown New York City and downtown San Diego.  For the complete list, click here.

When tragedy strikes, so often we wonder what can we do? Many times the answer is nothing.  This time is different.  By attending this Saturday’s  Bone Marrow Registration Drive you could save the life of a young Lancaster boy.  Yes, you could make a difference.

Eleven-year-old Austin Bonefede is one of three children born to Bob and Kym Bonefede.  Their story is no stranger to many folks in Lancaster.  Austin was a normal kid who attended public schools and played baseball until he was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia  on December 5th, 2009.  (Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, AML, is an aggressive form of cancer that attacks blood and bone marrow.)   His mom remembers it was a Saturday, the day their lives changed.

Austin immediately began a regimen of chemotherapy treatment at Roswell Park  that eventually lead to a bone marrow transplant in April of 2010.  Sadly, it didn’t work out and he is need of another.

Doctors recommend a donor with Italian and/or Polish heritage, although everyone is welcome.  (Austin’s last donor was near perfect match and she was a combination of several different ethnic backgrounds, so you never really know.) 

All you really need to do is show up for the registration drive this Saturday.  A simple swab of your cheek is all it takes to be registered.  Total time, about five minutes.

What happens if you are a match?  Doctors say the procedure to donate bone marrow is very non-invasive with little to no downtime required.

The Bone Marrow Registration Drive will be held tomorrow (Saturday May 19th) from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the William Street School  (Multipurpose Room), 5201 William Street, Lancaster, NY.

Austin really needs your help.  He would have been sixth grader this year at William Street had the unthinkable not happened.  Instead, he hasn’t been able to attend a full day of school for quite some time now.  Austin was scheduled to be in my son’s 5th grade class last school year, but he was only able to attend classes for a few half days throughout the year.   Hospitals visits have become more common place than ballparks, parties and time spent with friends.  You may be the one to help Austin get back to the business of being a boy again. 

Austin is pictured above with hims mom (Kym), 16-year-old brother (Tyler)  and   9-year-old sister (Alexandra).  I’m sure his dad (Bob) was behind the camera.

This was supposed to be the wrap-up to “35+” Mom’s Week. I was going to put up some more videos of ’80′s hits that we play on The New 96.1/Joy-FM, maybe add some funny pictures from that era. But, due to circumstances beyond our control…

..we find ourselves mourning the death of Donna Summer.

If you were growing up during the “Disco era”, as I’m guessing most of our 35+ mom were, you couldn’t have gone to a dance club, turned on your TV or, yes, your radio without hearing at least some of her music. Here are three songs that always got my attention:

Russell Brand appeared on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ today (May 17) in a pre-taped segment where he revealed that he still loves his soon-to-be-ex-wife Katy Perry, with whom he split in December of last year. He offered several positive sentiments about the ‘Part of Me’ singer and then hung out with Ellen’s favorite mini correspondents, Sophia Grace and Rosie.

Brand did not skirt the Perry issue, saying, “I love her as a human being, but sometimes when you’re in a relationship I suppose it doesn’t work out, does it? But that doesn’t mean I regret it or anything … I was very happy to be married to her, she’s such a beautiful human being, and I only have love and positivity for her.”

Aw, that’s so heartbreaking. It truly is an amicable split for these two, even though they’ve unfollowed one another on Twitter. “You can’t make everything how you want it to be in life,” Brand also said. How eloquent and true.

The mood lifted when he was flanked by his fellow Brits, those precocious, tiara-wearing, pink-clad princesses Sophia Grace and Rosie. We hope they are homeschooled, because they sure seem to be spending a lot of time outside of the classroom. Yeah, we know, they’re picking up an education at the school of life and are rubbing elbows with celebs, but still! We’re sure they’ve got responsible parents.

Brand called them “my little Essex friends,” commenting that “we’ve all escaped. Back in Essex, these children would be forced to clean chimneys.” He also said that he and Rosie would have to team up to keep SG in line, since she’s a little firecracker.

The comedian then asked SG to express everything she ever thought, to which she shouts “PINK!” Either she works for Victoria’s Secret’s diffusion line, has been brainwashed by Nicki Minaj or has had a wee bit of training about how to suck people into her vortex of cuteness.

Can we just say we love how Rosie is the quiet one? She’s like Teller of Penn & Teller.

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch cake pan.
2. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the cake mix, egg whites, frozen margarita mix, vegetable oil, lime zest, and 1 tablespoon lime juice. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
3. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center shows moist crumbs, 30 to 35 minutes. Cake will be very moist. Cool in the pan.
4. To make frosting, beat the cream cheese and butter together until light and fluffy, and stir in the lemon peel and 1 tablespoon of lime juice. Beat in the confectioners’ sugar, 1 cup at a time, scraping the sides of the bowl thoroughly with a spatula after each addition. Spread the frosting over the cooled cake.

 At the time of her death the five time Grammy award winner was working on a new album. 

I loved listening to Donna Summer on 8 Track and going for ice cream.  Donna made music that made you want to get up and dance and sing along with emotion. She had so many great songs, My beautician Phil and I would sing Mac Arthur Park during perms and I sang Donna Summer at my friends wedding, yes sometimes I become “the wedding singer”. I always try to enjoy myself and it always brings good laughs.  My theme song is “She works hard for the money”.  She will be missed by all. Here are the videos of my favorite life songs.

The skeletal remains of as many as 150 people and pieces of wooden coffins have apparently been unearthed at the University at Buffalo.  The discovery was made by a contractor working on a sewer line at the UB South Campus.

UB officials are saying the remains were discovered on an area of the South Campus that runs parallel to Bailey Avenue.  University officials say they are not surprised by the discovery because the South campus was the site of the Erie County Almshouse and Poor Farm between 1853 and 1909.  Poverty stricken people not only lived there, they were laid to rest in a Potter’s Field there.

The Buffalo News reports this is not the first time human remains have been found on the south campus.  Over the years, there have been other discoveries during small construction projects.  The remains are being stored in a crypt in the event they could ever be identified.

HSBC Bank will be handing over many of its branches – and accounts – to First Niagara Bank tomorrow. If you’re one of the customers affected by the changes, there are a few things it may help to know.

First Niagara is about to take over 70-percent of HSBC’s Branches in the Buffalo area. Keybank and and couple of other smaller banks will take ownership of the remaining branches later this year.

If you’re one of those affected by the moves this week, you likely have already been contacted by First Niagara. Many folks still though appear to have questions about the changes. We’ve compiled the answers to some of those questions.

1. Your Debit Card: Your HSBC debit card will stop working Friday, May 18th, 2012 and 3pm. You will need to activate the First Niagara card (you should have received in the mail).

2.  Your Credit Card:  Your HSBC Credit Card will stop working on Sunday, May 20th, 2012.  You won’t be able to activate your new First Niagara credit card until Sunday. 

3.  Direct Deposit:  Your direct deposit paycheck should transfer over automatically.  If there is an issue, you will be notified.

4.  Checks:  You should start using the First Niagara checks that were sent to you.  Any HSBC checks you may have written still have 90 days to clear. 

5.  Online Banking:  You’ll have to sign up for online banking on First Niagara’s website.

6.  Interest rates:  Your interest rates will stay the same whether it be for a credit card, mortgage or other loan.

An antibiotic used to treat bronchitis, pneumonia, ear infections and sexually transmitted diseases may boost the risk of death, a US study said Wednesday.

The study in New England Journal of Medicine is the first to document serious heart risks of using Azithromycin — up to a 2.5-fold higher chance of cardiovascular fatalities — in the first five days of treatment compared to another or no antibiotic.

While the relative number of fatalities was low, researchers said the findings offer new information about possible dangers that doctors and patients should consider.

“We believe this study adds important information on the risk profile for azithromycin,” said lead author Wayne Ray, professor of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University. For patients with elevated cardiovascular risk and infections for which there are alternative antibiotics, the cardiovascular effects of azithromycin may be an important clinical consideration.”

Side effects may include skin rashes, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing or swallowing and rapid, pounding or irregular heartbeats, according to the American Hospital Formulary Service.

Special New York license plates with the Multiple Sclerosis Society logo are funding research to help fight the disease.

The plates come with a $25 annual service charge that will fund research into pediatric MS. To date, the license plates have raised more than $26,000! Multiple sclerosis is a disease that attacks the central nervous system, with sometimes dibilitating effects.
