Google “Doodle” Celebrates Freddie Mercury (VIDEO)

Google.com

If you use Google (and really, who doesn’t?), you’ve probably noticed that, from time to time, the logo is replaced with a special piece of art [like this one, to celebrate electric guitar inventor Les Paul. More recently, a "doodle" commemorated Lucille Ball's 100th birthday. Go ahead, click on the links. The "doodles" really work].

This time around, though, the Google crew may have outdone itself. Today, US Google users get to see a special cartoon celebrating what would have been the 65th birthday of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury (Mercury’s birthday was actually yesterday; while the cartoon was used in most of the world yesterday, Google’s US operations chose to celebrate Labor Day by adding an American flag to its normal logo). You can see the special “doodle” today at Google; if, for some reason, you don’t use Google, we’ve got you covered:

At 1:39, the Mercury tribute is the second-longest “doodle” to date. What’s the longest “doodle”?  I just knew you’d ask:

[Google, via YouTube]

If you’ve got a minute, Google [well, of course you'd search on Google] “google doodles”; there’s a full set of all the “doodles” that have been used around the world [I didn't know until today that there are separate "doodles" for separate events in different countries].

Do you follow “doodles”? Which was your favorite? What would you like to see as a “doodle”? Let us know, either here or on our Facebook page.
