Once again, Buffalo's strong sense of community came shining through!

By now you're probably painfully aware of the plight little Phoenix, a Jack Russell Terrier, faced in the past couple of months.  Without recanting all the gory details (far too much for THIS animal-lover to even write about), Phoenix needed many, many procedures to save his little life.  I'm thrilled to report that ALL of his healthcare costs will be met...thanks to YOU.  You heard the story, and you donated...you spread the word....and your community rallied.  If you're a pet owner, you know how expensive a simple ear infection can cost to treat....think about how costly Phoenix's surgeries, skin grafts, medicine, and still a possibility of a leg amputation can run.  But thanks to your kindness and generosity to this little soldier-pup, he will be receiving the very best care, and the costs will be covered.

From the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter:

Because of your generous donations we have more than enough to cover Phoenix's medical care. We are astonished at the outpouring of support from WNY and across the country. 100% of the funds donated will be used toward medical care for Phoenix and other Shelter animals in need of emergency medical services. Thank you to each and every one of you for sending donations and well-wishes. We will continue to keep you updated on Phoenix's condition. One man's evil deed has truly been out-shined by the goodness of our community coming together for one very special and much loved puppy.

I mentioned on the air this morning (Thursday) that we were interested in helping this lil' guy out.  And even though his costs are covered (as of print time), he's still got LOTS of little friends at the Buffalo Animal Shelter that can always use your support.  So I'm going to be establishing a "Phrends of Phoenix Phund" (you KNOW I mean business when I use silly spelling!).  The kicker is, while we'll be raising money, it won't be coming out of your pocket...but it could save you some time spent waiting in line.  Sound cryptic?  It won't...in the coming days.  Keep listening for details!

From the bottom of my animal-obsessed heart, thank you for answering this call.  I know I've only lived in this community for 13 days now, but it's a community I'm proud to call home.

See ya in the morning! :)

(This is MY puppy, DJ, last Halloween. She was only about 3 months old, so it was ok to dress her up.  She refuses to allow me to do any more of that now....)
